Quick answer
If you already have an SSS number, recover and verify that record—do not apply for another number. Your Social Security number is your lifetime number. SSS directs members who have forgotten it to request verification at the nearest SSS office. If you already have multiple numbers, request cancellation of the excess numbers and consolidation of your records. sss.gov.ph
The next step depends on what is missing: your number, your My.SSS login, a copy of your registration record, supporting documents, or posted contributions. Restoring online access does not automatically correct the underlying record or establish eligibility for benefits.
Identify the problem first
| Your situation | Appropriate next step |
|---|---|
| You cannot remember your SS number | Look for earlier SSS documents, then request SSS verification if necessary. |
| You know your number but cannot log in | Use the official My.SSS recovery facility. |
| You need your E-1 or an earlier E-4 | Request copies of member records from SSS. |
| Your record is tagged “Temporary” | Submit the required supporting documents for permanent status. |
| Your personal information is wrong | Request a member data correction. |
| Contributions are missing | Request contribution verification and investigate payment or employer reporting. |
An SS number, a My.SSS user ID, and an E-1 are different things. The number identifies your record; the user ID provides online access; the E-1 documents your registration information.
Find and verify your existing SS number
Start with documents you already control: your Personal Record or E-1, SS Number Slip, earlier SSS correspondence, or employment records. For online registrants, SSS sends an application confirmation with the SS Number Slip, Transaction Number Slip, and E-1/E-6 attachments. sss.gov.ph
A practical approach is to:
- Search your email and saved files for these documents.
- Ask your present or former HR office which SS number it used when reporting you.
- If the number remains uncertain, request verification at an SSS office.
- Bring identification and any old SSS documents that may help locate the record.
Treat an employer’s information as a lead. Ask SSS to resolve discrepancies, particularly where names, birth dates, or numbers differ. Do not assume that a portal error means you were never registered.
Use the official SSS forms page to obtain the Request/Verification Form and other membership forms. sss.gov.ph
Restore access to My.SSS
Open the official My.SSS portal through the SSS website and select the member account’s password or user-ID recovery option.
The current member recovery page offers Multi-factor Authentication and Security Questions, and asks for your CRN or SS number. Follow the options available for your account; older instructions that rely entirely on an emailed reset link may not match the current screen. If the account is locked, the portal directs you to contact SSS. member.sss.gov.ph
If you cannot receive verification messages, have lost access to your registered contact details, or cannot complete recovery:
- Explain the exact obstacle to SSS.
- Ask whether your registered email or mobile number needs updating.
- Request assistance with user-ID recovery or password resetting.
SSS’s published E-Center recovery procedure provides branch assistance for members who have forgotten their registered email or encounter access difficulties. Its checklist specifies an original SS ID/UMID or two original valid IDs showing the member’s name, photograph, and signature. Confirm the applicable checklist before travelling. sss.gov.ph
If you have an SS number but never created an online account, use the official My.SSS registration instructions. Online-account registration is separate from obtaining a new SS number. sss.gov.ph
Request a replacement copy of your membership documents
Losing your E-1 does not require registering again.
The 2026 SSS Citizen’s Charter provides a service for requesting copies of member records, including E-1 and E-4 forms. Requirements include the Request/Verification Form, Data Privacy Notice/Consent, and applicable identification documents. Requests may be handled through SSS branches or foreign offices.
An archived document may require retrieval and may not be immediately available. Keep the acknowledgment and ask how to follow up. Citizens Charter 2026 1st Edition
Specify what you need: an earlier E-1, an E-4, current membership information, or a contribution record. These serve different purposes.
Validate temporary status or correct personal information
If your record is “Temporary”
SSS explains that a temporary SS number can be used for contributions, but permanent status is required for benefits or loans. Submit your PSA-issued birth certificate or other accepted supporting documents for validation. Permanent tagging remains subject to SSS review. sss.gov.ph
The 2026 Citizen’s Charter also describes online applications with uploaded documents being reviewed for permanent tagging. An upload alone is not approval. Citizens Charter 2026 1st Edition
If your name, birth date, or other details are wrong
SSS advises reporting member-data changes promptly. Some simple corrections can be requested through My.SSS; other changes require branch processing and supporting documents. sss.gov.ph
For branch submissions, use the Member Data Change Request, Form E-4. Its instructions require two copies with the relevant documents. Identification proves who is filing; supporting documents establish the requested change. A civil-status change, for example, requires the corresponding marriage, death, or legal document. sss.gov.ph
Substantial identity discrepancies need special attention. Ask SSS which documentary requirements apply before obtaining affidavits or pursuing a civil-registry correction.
Deal with missing contributions separately
Check your monthly contributions through My.SSS or the official MySSS app. The app provides membership and contribution information. sss.gov.ph
For each missing month, preserve payslips, payment receipts, payment confirmations, and employer communications. Ask HR for the applicable contribution month, SS number used, and remittance details, then request SSS verification.
A payroll deduction is evidence of a deduction; it does not by itself prove remittance to SSS. Republic Act No. 11199 separately requires employer reporting and contribution remittance. Employer failures can carry statutory liability, but the remedy depends on the facts. Supreme Court E-Library
Do not pay the disputed months yourself without clarification. Account recovery does not authorize retroactive contributions.
Preserve evidence and avoid common mistakes
Keep a secure folder containing:
- Old registration forms and SS-number documents.
- Supporting civil-registry records and identification.
- Screenshots of errors, with dates.
- Contribution records, payslips, and receipts.
- Submitted forms, acknowledgments, reference numbers, and replies.
Avoid creating another SS number, paying a fixer, submitting inconsistent information, or treating a successful login as proof that every record problem is resolved. Never share passwords, OTPs, or security-question answers.
When help is urgent
Contact SSS promptly if you suspect unauthorized access, find unfamiliar transactions, or have a benefit application affected by an identity or contribution discrepancy. Explain any pending deadline; do not assume that a recovery request extends it.
For assistance, use the SSS contact page, 1455, or usssaptayo@sss.gov.ph. Ask for the applicable transaction requirements and retain the response. sss.gov.ph
Seek legal assistance where conflicting identity documents, employer non-remittance, or an adverse benefit decision requires advice beyond routine record correction.
Frequently asked questions
Does leaving employment erase earlier contributions?
No. Section 11 of Republic Act No. 11199 preserves credit for contributions paid on a separated employee’s behalf, with benefits governed by the law’s requirements. A gap in payments and a missing record are different issues. sss.gov.ph
What if I already have two SS numbers?
Disclose both to SSS and request consolidation. SSS determines which number to retain under its published rules; do not simply choose one yourself. sss.gov.ph
Does permanent status guarantee a loan or benefit?
No. It addresses record validation. The particular loan or benefit still has its own qualifying conditions.
Will everything be fixed in one visit?
That depends on the transaction, completeness of documents, and whether retrieval or further verification is needed. Consult the 2026 SSS Citizen’s Charter and request a reference number for follow-up. Citizens Charter 2026 1st Edition
